What it is:
While grading is about shaping the surface, excavation is about digging into the earth. It is the process of removing soil, rock, and other materials to create a cavity or trench in the ground.
Excavation requires heavy machinery like excavators and backhoes to dig deep into the site. It involves trenching for underground utilities (water, sewer, electrical), digging out foundations or basements, and excavating for swimming pools. It also includes “cut and fill” work, where we cut away hillsides and use that dirt to fill in low spots on the property.
You cannot build a strong structure on top of loose topsoil. Excavation allows builders to reach the solid, undisturbed earth required to support a foundation. It is also the only way to safely install the critical underground infrastructure that powers a modern home or commercial building.
