What it is:
A retaining wall is a rigid structure built to hold back soil and prevent it from sliding or eroding away. MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth) walls are a highly engineered type of retaining wall. Instead of relying purely on the heavy weight of concrete blocks to hold the dirt back, MSE walls use layers of geogrid mesh or metal straps buried deep inside the soil to reinforce the earth itself, locking it together with the wall facing.
Building an MSE or retaining wall is a complex process that requires precision dirt work. We start by excavating a solid, level trench for the foundation. For an MSE wall, we build it from the bottom up—placing a layer of facing blocks, laying down the reinforcing grid, backfilling with specific types of crushed rock and soil, and compacting it to strict engineering standards. We repeat this process layer by layer until the wall reaches its final height.
In areas with uneven terrain, hillsides, or steep slopes, retaining walls are absolutely essential to create usable, level land for building. Without a retaining wall, gravity and water would eventually cause the hillside to collapse or wash away. MSE walls are especially critical for large-scale commercial projects, highways, or massive residential developments because they can safely hold back enormous amounts of earth and support incredibly heavy loads without failing.
